Oak Creek Mini & Micro Mini Donkeys

We have a small herd of AMDS Miniature Donkeys.

Our specialty will be blacks and black and whites in Micro and Miniature sizes, however we will have other colors too! The ADMS requires fewer letters for farm prefixes so I will not be using my Miniature Horses farm name.

The farm name for the Miniature Donkeys is:

Please see post below about using Miniature Donkeys for Guardians before trying to buy a donkey from me. I will not sell a donkey of any age to be used for such. I also will not sell a single donkey if there is no other donkey on the property to be its buddy. Donkeys are not of the nature to live alone or to be separated if they are bonded.

Please learn about animals before you purchase, their lives depend on your level of knowledge and devotion to their well being.

Useful Information and Links for Donkeys

Donkeys should not be fed like a horse. Google feeding and care before you buy and feed your donkey.

The MOST IMPORTANT is DO NOT separate bonded pairs. Many will just die if you do!

About Using Miniature Donkeys As Guardians

This I posted in many of the donkey forums as many newbies go there for advice. It is accurate good advice.

I have concerns about some calls I am getting and general knowledge I am seeing passed around as if it is FACT. It appears many are being told to just get a mini donkey to protect their goats and other farm animals I have a problem with this, a HUGE problem.

First off a donkey regardless of size needs a friend that is another donkey. Goats, cows, pigs, mini horses, big horses, none of them are appropriate without one of their own. They don't speak the same language or truly understand all behavior from the donkey. It very well may be what a layman has been told or another less than experienced backyard donkey owner is telling you to sell you their perfect little weanling or donkey they no longer want.

Next, since when can a miniature donkey outfight a pack of coyotes or pack of dogs? I have a friend whose mini horses were attacked, one died and one is permanently disfigured with all of us amazed he is still alive. She now has 2 Livestock Guard Dogs and will never go without them again. Another friend had a pack of dogs kill her stallion, took him down like he was nothing. Do you really think a miniature donkey can do any better than a mature miniature horse stallion? Believe me your getting BAD advice.

BEWARE, they are not guardians.

If you have goats or mini animals do them a favor and get them a Livestock Guard Dog. I've had a Great Pyrenees taking care of my herd of minis for years, she can pass from pasture to pasture either going over or sliding in between boards on the interior pastures. I have no climb on the outside fences as well as 4 planks. She has taken care of 4 pastures over 15 acres by herself for 8 years. I have recently bought a couple pups for her to train so she can relax some. She is the best dog and I don't worry about my animals. The coyote presence here is huge. Sometimes the pack appears to have at least 20 or more. They know better than to come onto my property. It has grown to the point I became worried about my Pyrenees, hence some help for her.

So before you believe someone that just wants to sell a donkey or sounds knowledgable, talk to those that have been doing this for many many years and KNOWS what you really need and will mince no words letting you know in a kind yet firm manner. Don't find out the hard way you've been lied to. I think I'm done for now.
